MAGAZINE AD. ANALYSIS

Florence & the Machine - LUNGS

It was difficult to find any magazine adverts to analyise online, therefore the advert above may not be to the exact style and genre of the one I would like to create. The font and text positioning is however, the position I would use, the band name at the top and other information in the lower third works well as it allows a large portion of the page to be spcifically for the image. Using a white font is also a factor I would like to include, I think it contrasts well against the dark backdrop. I think the concept of using a numbver date works really well, it gives a dramatic effect to the advert, as if it is a major event. Using simplictic language, with minimal writing keeps the page organised an un-cluttered, a factor with I think is very important. It's easy to read and the viewer can get the information easily and quickly.
The main image of Florence Welsh works well and suits the genre and content of songs on the album, her pose is natural and having her not looking at the camera works well as the photograph does not look forced. The real lungs placed over her torso represent not only the actual name of the album, but the dark side of her lyrics. The colour scheme used works well, the colours are muted, with black being the main tone used, this ensures the text is very visible and the highlights in the photograph stand out making the image look clear. The floaty dress and roses in the background, create a binary opposite to the raw lungs in the centre, showing both sides to the content of her songs.
