MOCK UP AD.

      Below I have created a mock up of an idea of the style of magazine advert I would like to make. I took just one picture due to having little timing of  the male band member (Pat) wearing a paper bag covering his head. This links to the disjuncture used in the music video as some or one of the characters will be wearing paper bag masks.
I think covering the face adds an element of mystery, intriguing the reader/listener as they don't know who is the creator behind the music.
To create the mock up, I edited the photo to look authentic, altering the contrast, colour, sharpness and other elements on photoshop. I then used the same font and colour of text used on the mockup album covers to link everything together.

Mock Ups

The first mock up which I have created consists of an image of Crystal Castles which I have then edited and added text in an attempt to create something which looks like album artwork. As my band does consist of a female and male due I feel that using an image such as this means that it will be highly inspirational. The use of the masks is something that I am very keen on also. In this mock up I have made use of the whole image across the layout of the artwork itself. If I was to do this, I would like to use a similar idea which would be capturing the two artists in a completely random location. On  this particular cover I have incorporated the band and album name into the picture very subtle, such like it has always been there. If I was develop this idea further for my final digipack, this is a convention I would like to follow. 

Secondly, I have created a quick mock up taking inspiration from albums such as James Blakes and The Horrors. This mean taking an image and adding a blur motion to create the effect shown above. On this particular image I have used an image which was taken of the two artists last year. So this gave me a good idea of how the two may look together in a photo such as the one above. I think the effect itself on a photo like this fits into the electronic genre well. As we expect the genre to usually be upbeat featuring 'jumpy' elements, a cover such as this reflects the elements of the electronic genre. E.g. Speed. In this mock up I have used a simplistic, legible font which has then allowed me to use a fairly small size. The reason I feel this works well with the image is because the two simplistic elements compliment each other resulting in a minimal abstract piece and overall making the piece aesthetically pleasing to look at due to the so little going on. I like the idea of differentiating the name of the album from the band name like I have above. The black panel behind 'Wildfire' allows the piece to have a slightly eye catching nature even though the writing itself is very small. I feel that this mock up is one that I would like to develop further when creating my final piece. 

Lastly I have taken inspiration from one of my album analysis' 'The Kills'- 'No Wow'. Even though No Wow did work perfectly for the genre of indie/rock I feel by making the image much more abstract and mysterious I have been able to incorporate elements of electronica into the piece and also create a sense of continuity still with the idea of missing identification taking place. I have once again used the image of my two artists which was previously taken by Julia last year. Like before, I have made use of the motion blur effect but very much like on the kills album, split the image into two to then create single identities for each artist within the duo. For this particular piece I have also changed the image into black and white and I felt it was much more realistic than in colour seeing as it had to sit upon a background. After changing the colourings of the image itself this made it an easy decision to decide what colour the text needed to be. To show a sense of continuity and profession I have added a simplistic white block text which is once again easily legible and ensures there isn't too much going on as the accompanying image is fairly busy in the nature that it appears to be moving. I do like this cover, although I feel that on my final, I will want to include a touch of colour to the piece, so if I wanted to develop this, it may mean testing new colour schemes. 

MOCK UPS

Above is a mock i've created using photoshop. The image was sourced from the internet and I have edited it further. Colour wise I think the vibrancy and high contrast works well, creating an almost psychedelic feel to the image, this would represent the genre well. The content of image also links to our music video storyline, the characters will be wearing masks/ headresses similar to the paper bags used in this photo. The font positioning and style are similar to that of the 'Foals' albums. I prefer white fonts as they are easy to see and read against the coloured background. To create a more personalized lettering style I have used a space between each letter, I feel that this works well, giving the cover a finishing touch.  The cover below is basically the same however I have edited a different photograph.                                                                      

 The covers below are create using the same concept, however I have altered the lettering position. I like this font position equally as I think it creates a formality to the cover. The font position I choose to use will depend solely on the image contents layout. This photograph below's colours have been altered to look as if they're unattural, I'm fond of this style as it would suit the genre and overall image of the band. Both images are grainy, creating an almost vintage look, this combined with either the masks or vibrant colour or both combined will create a binary opposit of vintage and modern.

Album Cover- Ideas

I came across the image above on weheartit.com, the image itself is surreal and interesting, matching our genre well. Having an element of explicit imagery (the naked torso's) adds interest and compliments our bands persona of being a little 'off the rails' and would appeal to our audience/target age range, almost rebelling against the conventional music genres and albums artworks. The use of the two deer head masks are inkeeping with the record as they relate to the characters we will be using in our music video. The video itself is an example od disjuncture and surrealism, with no obvious link to the lyrics of the song with this image also being an example of both of these. 

Above is a quick mock-up I created using photoshop displaying what kind of style of digi pack I would, ideally, want to make. The photograph itself would not be sourced from the internet but I will have taken one myself. To acheive the correct shot I will need to take many photographs in order to find one which displays the correct vibe. Iy the shot contains models I would prefer the poses to be natural and the 'costume' to be surreal creating a binary opposite of surreal and reality within the photograph. If, however, I do not use people in shot, I want to take a photograph of something completely everyday, perhaps an open fridge, supermarlet isle or plant for example. I would then add an abstract twist to the shot using photoshop, similar too James Blakes blurred face on his album cover.

< Here I have recreated the Vempire Weekends self titled album, again the photograph was sourced from the internet and I have just added some simple text, however I think the simplicity can be very effective. I am not particularly fond of this example but the idea is basically the same as the mock up above, although this time I have used Paint instead of Photoshop where very little accuracy is available.
